Brush cleanup is progressing well, with everything north of College Avenue completed.
Forestry operations are divided into nine zones across the city. The first eight zones are complete. Areas remaining include everything south of College Avenue.
Crews are clearing the boulevards of brush by working through the zones sequentially. The City expects brush cleanup work will be complete by mid-May, weather permitting.
The brush cleanup involves the removal and chipping of branches dropped from trees as a result of the December 22, 2013 ice storm.
All high-traffic park areas and main community trails were cleared of hazards and blockages in February and are open to the public. The following parks have been cleared: Brant Avenue Park, Franchetto Park, Golfview Park, Hillcrest Park, Peter Misersky Park, Riverside Park, Royal City Park, St. George’s Park, Silvercreek Park, and Summit Ridge Park.
“Dragging and chipping brush is heavy work, and the crews have done a commendable job of advancing quickly through the city,” says Martin Neumann, manager of Forestry. “Crews appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we continue our work. I’d also like to thank the many homeowners who lightened our load by taking brush to the Waste Resource Innovation Centre.”
Report tree hazards by using the “How can we help you?” section on guelph.ca or call 519-837-5628 and include your name, contact information and the street address where the tree is located.
