I think this is generally a good idea. Smoking at recreational facilities is an anaethema. However, preventing smoking 9m from doors, when buses and cars are in some places only 2m from doors is ridiculous. Any law put in place in these instances will make its promoters look petty and holier-than-thou, rather than having any actual concern for public safety. Ditto goes for numerous patios that are directly beside exhaust spewing cars and buses. If public health was actually a concern in these cases, then such streets should be closed to traffic, or such patios be closed due to public health concerns. One can’t legislate a shift in public behaviours if the reasoning behind that shift is not applied evenly and fairly across the board.
