Subterranean termites are non-native invasive insects that can cause serious structural damage to homes and can be difficult and expensive to control. Currently, in Guelph, there are three designated Termite Management Areas, all on the north side of the city, encompassing 869 properties.

Termite Report 2007

Three Town Hall Meetings have been scheduled to communicate the findings of the
Termite Report 2007 to Termite Management Area residents.
These meetings will be held at the Evergreen Seniors Centre, 683 Woolwich St. Guelph.

Termites - New infestation

Unfortunately Building Services staff were advised yesterday of a possible infestation of termites outside of the existing two areas.
Dr. Myles visited a property on Emma Street, between Metcalfe St. and Stevenson St. yesterday and confirmed a structural infestation in the main dwelling that in his opinion may have been in existence for 5 years.

Wood mulch in the termite zone

It is my understanding that the use of mulch is frowned upon in termite areas. A rather large amount of mulch seems to be ready for use at the Stewart Mill lofts on Cardigan Street.
