24 Feb – Winter Control UPDATE No 2

Our anticipated snow storm last night has been a bust!

We received less than 3 cm of snow last night and virtually no accumulation this morning. Current conditions are light drizzle/rain and no accumulation of snow. The main roads are wet and are not icing up at this point.

The amended forecast is for only 1 cm overnight but temperatures will drop below freezing. Our focus now is on keeping the main routes ice free and that is why you will be seeing salt trucks out later today and into the evening. With no need to plow, spare capacity will be put towards putting down sand in the residential areas to assist with traction. There is no plan to conduct a plow out of residential areas at this time.

Longer range forecast is for air temperatures to be between 0C and -9C, and only light flurries with little to no accumulation.

Updates to follow as the conditions dictate.

Have a great weekend and please drive to the conditions! Staff
