A State of the Environment report included in this year’s conservation calendar provides a snapshot of the City’s progress in the past year to save energy and water, improve its waste diversion rate and green spaces, and reduce smog and greenhouse gas emissions.
The report’s highlights include the launch of the Blue Built Home program which provides incentives for newly built homes with water-saving technologies, the updating of Guelph’s Official Plan to offer increased protection for the city’s green spaces and a pilot project to fuel a City vehicle with methane gas generated from the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The 2012 Conservation Calendar provides tips to help residents reduce their environmental footprint through water and energy conservation, composting, waste reduction, eating locally produced food, and eco-friendly transportation. The handy waste pull-out section contains sorting information, curbside collection guidelines and information on special collection programs and services.
“Guelphites are justifiably proud of our city’s reputation as an environmental leader,” said Mayor Karen Farbridge. “Residents play a huge role in building that reputation by conserving water and energy, sorting their waste, and using green modes of transportation. The Conservation Calendar helps us maintain our good habits and develop a few new ones.”
The City’s 2012 Conservation Calendar will be delivered to Guelph homes with today’s Guelph Tribune newspaper. Copies of the calendar will also be available for residents to pick up at various City facilities in December. An online version of the calendar will be available at guelph.ca/environment.
As per the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the 2012 Conservation Calendar is also available by mail or in an alternate format by calling Solid Waste Resources at 519-767-0598.

I find this calendar totally useless — just one more thing to recycle. The names of the MONTHS are printed in such pastel colours that they are hard to read… and there doesn’t seem to be any NEW info’ that isn’t in/ or couldn’t be in the paper every week… Don’t waste our tax dollars on this.
Not everyone gets the paper, plus putting ads in the local papers would cost a lot more than producing the calendar.
I use my calendar ALL the time…very useful…information at my fingertips.
