i am a guelph citizen of over 30 years. as i grow older, i see the city grow and i see the lines of traffic get increasingly longer. i see trails that were once dirt get converted into gravel then into concrete…
i look for parks to “get away” from the city and all i find are small pieces of land that are constantly getting manicured and up-kept. i try to have a silent afternoon, reading in the park or doing yoga and i get distracted by the people living nearby insistently mowing their grass or hammering that fence that needs fixing.
now, i understand that there are things to do around the house but why do them at 10am on a sunday morning (when there are others trying to sleep from a late night on saturday)? i am constantly getting awoken by the hammering of nails or the sawing of saws. i sit down to have dinner to the sound of someone renovating their deck or sawing down tree branches.
i think there should be a bylaw that takes these things into consideration. perhaps sundays could be “do nothing day.” perhaps people can shut down their work from 6-8pm so that we can have dinner in peace. perhaps only 2 days of the week could be dedicated to people that HAVE to mow their grass.
the bylaw would help to slow down energy consumption at the same time as giving the people that LIVE in this city (meaning: enjoying the land and environment in guelph) some peace, quiet and serenity.
i’m tired of going to the park to “get away” to only be bothered by the person 40 feet away mowing their grass and hammering their nails.
call me picky but i think guelph would be a much better place if it wasn’t so noisy all the time. db
