  • i think roundabouts are the worst idea ever!! The may use them alot in the U.K. but are we in the U.K… I don’t think so. First of all, most of us don’t even know how to use them, and second off all it would probly slow traffic down.

  • I looked up “roundabouts” on wikipedia and it had a very informative article. The impression I get from it is that roundabouts use a lot less space than cloverleafs and that while they slow down traffic in many situations, they might be quite appropriate for the Hanlon. This is because the big problem with it is having to stop at lights. Roundabouts end the need to stop traffic. So what would happen would be the traffic would go slower between lights but would not be stopping at lights. The result might a quicker trip for drivers.

One thing it did say, though, is that roundabouts are quite dangerous for bicycles and pedestrians. This is no problem for the Hanlon, where they are banned anyway and pedestrian bridges can be built for both bikes and walkers; but it probably means that we shouldn’t put roundabouts anywhere else in the city.
